Cases are growing more slowly, but deaths are coming along very well. Thanks for asking.
New
cases grew less rapidly last week than during any week this year. On the other
hand, they grew much more rapidly than any week from the beginning of the
pandemic through the end of last year, if you want to call that progress.
But,
since obviously many people (including a number of leaders) are actively trying
to push the death rate higher all the time, I’m pleased to report to those people
that their efforts are succeeding. In fact, the number of new deaths last week,
20,420, was at its highest level since the week of February 7, 2021, when the
US was coming down from the devastating – I’m sorry, I mean glorious – fourth
wave of the coronavirus.
During
that wave, weekly deaths peaked at 23,947. Can we reach that figure or – dare I
say – surpass it this year? After all, at this time last year, not a lot of
people had been vaccinated. A lot more are vaccinated now, but fortunately
there are still lots of unvaccinated people who are ready and eager to sacrifice
their lives so that we can set another record!
I
say, let’s not deprive these people of the chance to make their mark on history
by dying to help break a record. No more vaccine mandates! No more face masks!
Open up all of the restaurants! Let’s go for the gold!
