We’re coming off the peaks, but deaths are still way too high
I
must confess that my deaths numbers for the past few weeks were too high,
because of a spreadsheet error. But we’re still over 2,000 daily deaths from
Covid, and from the end of February 2021 through the week ending January 23,
2022, we never once reached even that number. Moreover, daily deaths went up by
400 last week vs. the previous week. Any celebration of “Mission Accomplished”
is premature, to say the least.
Moreover,
since as of yesterday (March 2) we were at 980,000 deaths, it won’t be long
before we pass the one million mark for the pandemic so far. That will be in
about three months if daily deaths just continue at today’s level, but that’s
based on the hope that there won’t be another fast moving variant. And that it
won’t have learned to evade the current vaccines. None of us are safe until
literally the whole world is vaccinated. There’s still a long way to go before
we can truly declare the pandemic is over.
