Hold on to those masks!
As
you can see from the numbers below, it looks like both cases and deaths are
turning around – and going back up. They’re still relatively low (although 506
deaths per day is still 1 2/3 jumbo jet crashes every day). However, before you
throw away all of your masks, you might want to read this WaPo story
recounting statements last Friday by a “senior administration official during a
background briefing”.
The
official isn’t making a prediction, but it he did say that the new omicron
subvariants make it possible that there could be another huge wave of both
cases and deaths this fall and winter (and during spring and summer in the South,
when people are indoors).
And
on the local level, I’ve been getting a lot of emails about concerts being
cancelled in the Chicago area, for public health reasons. I thought we were
through with that.
